First Vulcan loco coming aboard

TID Tugs:

TID 174 and TID 175 outside Dunstons' (Henry Scarr's) yard at Hessle, where they were built, being fitted out in 1946. The characteristic 'square' sterns of the tugs are evident.

Lambton Men

The Gold Mine:

The number two shaft, probably photographed on the same occasion and certainly by the same photographer. Provisions appear to be much the same with a winch and a shaft cover. Hanging on the winch rope is a skip for hauling the excavated material to the surface. Despite the rather rustic appearance of the works a safety notice is pinned up at the top of the shaft but only the top two lines can be read which inform us that the men in charge of each shift were personally responsible but for what we do not know.
