From: In the Showroom: Ford Styling and Design, The Modern Era:The Capri 2 +2 coupé caused a sensation when it was introduced in January 1969, its grand tourer styling belying its affordable price. “The car you’ve always promised yourself” was the strong and romantic marketing message coined by Ford, and motorists younger and older fell for its charms. Several power options were available throughout the car’s production era, from the ‘base’ 1,297cc through to the high performance 3.1 litre V6 capable of 124mph. Customers could choose from several custom plans, some being largely cosmetic and aimed at making the car appear more powerful than it was. Most models had rectangular headlamps, though the more powerful GT and RS models, as well as the later variants, were fitted with quad lights. The car depicted parked on the rocky shoreline is a Mk II Capri which is without the grilles ahead of the rear wheel arches seen on earlier models. Ford
