From 'Stamp Charging at Coed Ely': A wonderful panoramic view taken in 1951 with battery number four under construction. Coke oven batteries are constructed under a temporary shed to protect the refractory materials from the weather and this may be seen on the right. The whole plant is illustrated here with the colliery in the background. Moving from left to right, we have the line to the colliery with the engine shed in the background and the by-products plant with its chimney stack and coolers in front. Below this are the remains of the old Coed Ely farm buildings and various 'bits' of the old tar plant, right again is the quencher. The ovens bunker with stamper station alongside and ovens stack are in the centre of the picture. Middle right is the washery building with coke loaders between it and the quencher.

From 'The Road to the Top for Fishermen': The steam trawler Golden Sceptre, built in 1906 and 137.7 ft long. Insurers still insisted that three sails be carried in case of engine breakdown. Note the whaleback and breakwater for'ard, the enclosed wheelhouse, overhead compass and pole compass, incorporating the most modern practice of her time – but not proof against inept navigation.
