From 'The Midland Railway S Line From Londonderry To Strabane: Londonderry Victoria Road, from the Craigavon Bridge and looking south towards Strabane on 24 June 1937. Class ‘5’ 2-6-4T No.5 Drumboe has just arrived with the 2.05 pm service from Stranorlar. This engine was originally number 17 Glenties but it had been renumbered and renamed only a short while prior to the photograph being taken. The picture also provides rare glimpses of the signal box, in the right background, and the engine shed, closed about 1934, just beyond. The box was later demolished, the points and signals thereafter being controlled from ground frames. Note that the siding on which the open wagons are standing was still narrow gauge at this date; it was later converted to broad gauge to accommodate NCC wagons arriving from Londonderry Waterside station. ~ Photo H.C.
