Railways of Hereford

by Gordon Wood

This volume is the result of twenty years of comprehensive research into various aspects of the origins and development of railways in the city.

Details are provided on the rivalries that existed between the railway companies, their Directors, Engineers and Secretaries, the infrastructure, including the stations and bridges, and also how the railways were operated.

A previously unrecorded aspect of railway operation that has taken almost seven years of research and discussion with local railwaymen is the detail of how each of the sidings within the city were operated.

Extensive use has been made of original source material that now challenges some of the generally held views of the history of Hereford.

The text is enhanced by the use of a wide range of maps and illustrations that have been drawn by the author.
